This does need to stop, right now. Where the fuck do people get off, yeah, get off, thinking it is a-okay to PUBLISH peoples personal information, threaten them, out them, whatever? NO, it is NOT okay. I think almost all of us, have at one point in time, received the above and beyond comments...including death threats and other assorted nasty shit, but when people are posting other peoples information (legal name, address) and threatening them, well, there is a word there: Wrong. Add to that 'malicious intent'.
And people need to be aware it is happening to a lot of folk, not just big name A listers, so on, so forth, and they need to stand up and say it is wrong, and spread the word...NO MATTER WHO it is, and NO MATTER if you agree with them or not.
stupid fucking humans...gah.

I agree, that is just fucked up.
If anyone comes by any of this information on personal lifes and so on, please make me aware, and I will try talking to them.
What did she do to 'deserve' this?
- Martin
motherfucker. i'm going to need aggression therapy after this month.
Sassywho,
I don't even get it. I've seen feminists that man-bash like fucking crazy - but this woman seems very fair and just. Not excactly the person worthy of that kind of behaviour.
- Martin.
I believe she was targetted by racists, not sexists; at least, that's what her post said.
I find it curious that anyone could ever become "worthy" of having their name name and contacting information published maliciously on the internet, though.
Deoridhe,
1. I acted on the sexist thing because of this blog, and because she pronounce herself a feminist on hers.
2. Don't push it.
- Martin.
That's infuriating.
and yeah, she seems to have been targeted because of her pro-Roma work. some Greek nationalists and of course racists--calling her half-breed and so on.
as bad as the misogynists are (and not that there isn't lots of overlap, because there is), WOC and allies like Rachel may well get it even worse from the racists. some seriously sick fucks out there.
btw, there's a "Take Back the Blog" day coming up, i think exactly in response to the Sierra business and all such similar shit. when i find that link again i'll post details.
It hasn't happened to big A-Listers afaik.
Trust me on this, I have searched and searched for Kos' home address - all I've found out is that he lives in berkely, chicago (which is embarassing becuase I'd been avoiding philly because I thought that's where he lived) but anything more specific than that remains oddly elusive for such a well known blogger.
Belle: The Roma advocacy she does is particularly of interest to me because 1) "gypsy" lore is deified in some neo-pagan circles while the actual Roma are ignored and 2) in the US, gypsy isn't recognized as a slur at all even though it's a particularly insidious one. Like members of the First Nations, aspects of Roma culture are appropriated and used by mainstream, self-identifyingly "white" populations while the actual First Nation and Roma people are ignored.
It's a really interesting and disturbing situation.

yes, it's rather analogous to the New Age/Native American spirituality thing.
and, "gypsy" isn't nearly -as- recognized as it is in Europe, but it's still around. "gypped," for instance; and i distinctly remember being in an L.A. deli with my nice Jewish grandparents while the nice Jewish (U.S. born and raised afaik) waitress raved on and on about those filthy thieving gypsies (i forget what set it off exactly; some local event. yes, they're around).
i just hope to christ this doesn't end up shutting DD down. i mean i want her to be safe first, but she's such a great blogger, it'd really suck.
"in the US, gypsy isn't recognized as a slur at all even though it's a particularly insidious one."
If I'm not mistaken, "gypsy" is not universally considered derogatory, even among Roma. In fact, I think its generally accepted an umbrella term for the Rom, Dom, Travellers, etc, which includes non-Roma groups with cultural similarities to the Roma.
Blech.
People.
