I just posted a permanent link to this videoblog over at the SmackChron....it's that damn good.

Speaking truth with power never hurts...even in sweats and a sports bra.

Well done, Ren....we'll have more of that, please.

heh, that's standard "christ I have to clean and do laundry wear" around here....

Yeah, but it looks so comfortable, and the truth tends to shine above such matters.

BTW...Steve Gower had better not show his racist, misogynistic, pompous ass anywhere near my neighborhood with his video camera, because he's gonna get a whole lot more than a double middle-finger salute from me....if you catch my drift.

I like the video blog, Ren. Definitely "MOAR"!

And spot on the money as to what you were saying in this installment.

I want that bed!

Damn woman you are buff.

And I triple dog dare that guy to bring his camera to Miami and try that crap. I think he'd end up back in Georgia in a box...or maybe a few boxes.

"Midtown Ponce Security Alliance" - oh, the irony!

I loved this, Ren.

It should be impossible for any truly thinking person to ignore what you've said here. You are articulate and intelligent, indeed not someone that can be quickly written off as "tee hee yay porn!" and that comes across well in this video.

What you say is true: there ARE no easy solutions. To end/regulate prostition, programs WOULD need to put in place, as you say, drug treatment, job training, etc.

But none of that guareentees the women are going to do this, any more than a portion of my cleints are willing to do any of that.

It's not as easy as spouting "I blame the patriarchy!" and such. REAL WORK, real dirty-hands, in the trenches work is needed here and it usually isn't pretty.

I wonder how many of these privileged blogging patriarchy blamers are willing to do this work???

I want to do a video post!
Thanks for the inspiration!

PS. Gower can suck it.

Ren, that was great. I am inspired to do videos now as well. You pull it off brilliantly.

Thanks, but the best video post EVAR was Sudy's.

Well done! and nicely said.

Not very video-y, but a solid audio test. Your voice held firm and steady.

As to content:

Gower is pretty much an institutional stalker. I'd like to see an injuntion against him, but it could be hard to get one.

Very sorry to hear about the shut down of Sex 2.0. I would have hoped Atlanta could be more cosmopolitan, but GA is still a Bible Belt state.

I doubt you'll find an ear in the anti-porn crowd. I mean they'll be happy for you to bust your ass helping you felloe sex workers insteand of them. Gives them more time for political activism. They'll always find a "victim" od sex-work to champion, just as anti-choicers will always find a "victim" of abortion. The characteristics are the same - someone down on their luck browbeaten into playing the pity object.

Ugg, someone needs to key the words STALKER or BIGOT into Gower's car(s).
Maybe he'll like the attention that gets him?

And wonderful video Ren.

You're so much more soft-spoken than I expected :)

Ack! I don't have sound here on my computer at work, but I will watch it as soon as I get home!

Thanks in advance, I know it's awesome. :)

Let's not go there with the "Bible belt" shit, ok?

Very cool, you've inspired me to do my own video post! Looking forward to meeting you at Sex 2.0 (because it WILL happen)!

Heh heh. I know.

If *I* were doing it, I'd be dead frozen, my voice would go up half an octave, I'd mumble half the words and start each sentence with "Uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh". (Actually that's exactly what I did when I was interviewed on a TV story once. Watching the editing was PAINFUL.)

Very good, Ren.
Roykay--I know what you mean. I was on TV once for a local high school quiz show. I couldn't stop laughing when I had to introduce myself.

You are so pretty and I love your voice...but so surprised at how petite!

Yes, nice work.

Where's the tire iron? :D

Amber said...

Okay, I just watched the video, and I just have to say...

I love it!!

You should definitely make this a regular feature, Ren. I love how comfortable you were on video.

Thanks, too, for talking about the issue of Steve Gower and his band of merry assholes. I just hope that as more people learn about it, the outrage will get to be deafening for him.

Regarding Sex 2.0, there is a sliver of hope that we may be able to return to Spring4th after all; but I don't know any details yet, so for now consider it nothing more than an optimistic hope. But obviously I will keep everyone posted.

Amber said...

And btw, I *love* your bed!

Renegade Evolution said...

Daisy: I wasn't joking in all those other posts where I said I was short. 5'2" and all shoulders :)

Oh, I suspect sooner or later a tire iron or similar thing will make an appearance...

Sassywho said...

i vote for this as a regular feature, and 2nd the vote on the bed. when's the slumber party?

Gowers activities leave me with a feeling of helpless rage, unfortunately. He must be breaking the law, but, yeah, who's gonna take that road if it's unlikely to be successful. Ideas required.

Great vlog and excellent points, Ren. Nice to see and hear you!

Oh man am I steamed about this guy. Anyone else notice the quote: "Gower moved to Midtown in the mid-1980s. It was very different then, he says – much more lawless. He recalls sitting in a parklike area on Sixth Street late one night with a friend. While the two of them talked and smoked pot, he recalls with a chuckle, they saw six young men jump out of a car. Within a couple of minutes, each of the six men had stolen a car." So what.. was pot legal in the 80's did I miss something. Is that something that he feels should be legal? I mean if you're gonna play the #1 citizen of the world and infringe on other people's privacy... I'm not saying I don't feel prostitution or marijuana use shouldn't be legalized, but c'mon don't decide to fight against crime, while casually mentioning committing one yourself. What a jackass. His crime was more justified because he was doing it? Was it a safer crime without as many "victims"? What's the logic there? I guess it would be a lot less entertaining for him to volunteer somewhere like.. I dunno maybe with the understaffed Atlanta police so he can see what the real scope of the problem is there. I wish someone would follow him every day with a camera.

I don't often comment because I usually agree with what you say...which is of course the case today. There isn't a thing I can say that someone else hasn't already said, and probably better.

But I think I know someone who, if you were not obviously alive and kicking, I would say was your reincarnation. Right down to the inflection of your voices *Twilight Zone theme song* and I think both of you kick ass.

More on, not Gower specifically, but the Midtown Neighbor's Association and the closing of Spring4th (which used to be Sex 2.0's awesome venue) - http://sovo.com/2008/1-25/news/localnews/8046.cfm

Yeah, they're pretty big assholes.

Cool to hear your voice! That Gower's a proper arsehole.
