Actually, in many situations which call for a big WTF? Throwing up of the hands, mind-boggled expression, I declare myself the god- emperor of Rome.
Today all around has been a G.E.R. day. Mr.E has brought out my inner G.E.R, Mr.E’s family has brought out my inner G.E.R., a dude at a show this eve brought on the G.E.R, and yep, some comments here lately and bovine excrement on threads else where…sure enough, G.E.R.
Thus, for the next 24 hours, I declare myself the God Emperor of Rome. If you want, feel free to honor me with statues, money engraved with my image, epic feats of combat and carnage in the coliseum, or pound cake and German beer.
Any yes, the God Emperor of Rome is amused. And boggled. I do not understand that while there is no question that sexism affects everyone, there is such a refusal to see that there is a great difference between “slut” and “stud”. Or that cat-calling, honking, or otherwise making loud overtures towards a woman will, often, annoy the shit out of that woman and it is, generally, not something men have to deal with as often, if at all. I give a thumbs up to the idea that attraction is natural, but a thumbs down to “society expects/forces this behavior on us, thus I must”…the God Emperor of Rome believes in free will. And that both men and women are capable of employing it and using it to not do what society tells them to do all the time. And that both men and women are capable of and do lie about rape sometimes, yet most rapists are male. The God Emperor of Rome does still think men have it worse in areas such as, oh, war…random violence too. Yet, when it comes to outright sexism, it is the female of the species who experiences more, and more frequently…and we’re not talking the less harmful stuff, like the waiter generally handing the man the bill (which is sexist), but, oh, the guy on the subway coping a feel. Yet, the God Emperor of Rome is intrigued by her comment threads here recently, and shall ponder more when Apollo’s Chariot lights the sky.

Now Ren you know as well as well as I do that Emperors became Gods after the were DEAD. You know like saints. All so the new Emperor could call himself a 'son of a god.'
Hey Ren did you see the HBO show and did you like it?
All hail the God Emperor of Rome!
Vivat! Vivat! Vivat!
O halp - I'm a Christian, does that mean you're going to feed me to the lions?
I promise to "render unto Caesar that which is Caesar's", though not sure what that means in this circumstance!
Nah, c'mon, the guy that I passed in the street yesterday, who said to the girl behind me (who was wearing a dress baring only a smidge more cleavage than my own) "Hey, I'm just lookin', I'm not gonna touch!" after cutting her path off in the street so he could get a close-up look at her boobs, he was just bein' friendly! No sexism there!
Gah. the implication that he COULD touch her if he wanted but wasn't going to because it was his choice...made me hate men for a good hour.
I dedicated this to the God Emperor of Rome. It's not statues but it may count as graven image. =P
E.
Ave, Caesar! Morituri te salutant!
(I wish they had gladiatorial bloodsports these days. What a great theme for a sports bar!)
Marie of Romania requests a private audience with the God-Emperor of Rome; she comes bearing Jagermeister and several small provinces.
you want i should bring you nubile young boys (over the age of consent)?
All hail G.E.R.
I'm not sure what, exactly, you mean by the term "outright sexism," Ren, but depending on what you do and don't include under that phrase, I'd say it was highly debatable as to whether men or women as a group suffer more in the West due to their gender. My sense is that people who claim that women "clearly" suffer more are only dimly aware of the many ways men are disprivileged, and in particular don't fully grasp the meaning of items 9-13 on the list.
ballgame, I hope that The God Emperor of Rome will smite thee down for that idiot comment.
Right, men have it worse than women. And I have two left feet.
*snerk*
Dear god...(or should I say God Emperor of Rome?) did someone put out an e-memo on certain blogs to send all those who sing the refrain "but what about the men?!?!?!" to discussions/statements about continuing sexism against women, to Ren's blog? Seriously. There's a new one everyday.
Hi Ren,
I'm catching up on my blog readin' and as always, its a pleasure.
I was amused by the 'waiter handing the man the bill' example, just because I have watched that in action recently.
I am a genderqueer trans man, dating a genderqueer butch trans woman. We are both extremely ambiguous. Watching service people of all kinds stumble and stutter and get confused is hilarious.
The other night the waitress brought us the bill, and looked back and forward between us several times before just sitting the paper in the middle of the table.
gallingalla: I stand unsmited. There's no question that men have it worse than women in some areas, as Ren and even many mainstream feminists acknowledge.
Sorry to hear about your pedal impediment.
O halp - I'm a Christian, does that mean you're going to feed me to the lions?
I'm a lion. Does this mean that I'm going to be fed the same born-again Christians I ate last week?
