Let's look at this. The man inflicts an assault upon an unconcious woman. He claims to be a feminist. He disallows dissenting feminist comments at his blog. A TON of US write about it (not, ahem, a smear tactic by a pro-porn blogger, a ton of women and feminists and male feminists and allies), he then goes on to Alert these people, especially the women by email that he is "making a statement"...gee Kyle, did you for a second, considering your actions, think that maybe some of these women, the last thing they wanted was an email from YOU in their inbox? That they might find it triggering, or unsavory, or upsetting? Did you, I bet not! Because it's apparent that it's not about the women, not even his victim, but about KYLE.
You did all hear about his sentencing, right?
Humm. Write the judge. I encourage everyone to do that.

As I pointed out, Payne's insinuation of himself into women's spaces and activities should be viewed by the judge not as mitigating factors in his sentencing, but as worsening factors that demonstrate the depth of his depravity and the need for a harsh sentence.
I linked about it, but didn't post this time. I just don't know that I have time for this obviously icky, small-minded little douchebag.
Humm. Write the judge. I encourage everyone to do that.
No, don't do that. Write to the prosecutor if you feel that strongly about it.
The only way a judge could consider a letter direct to him would be as a motion to intervene, which he would certainly have to deny.

I'm thinking Daran is right about this. Judges must be impartial and cannot be lobbied, no? Probably better, yes, to write the prosecutor.

It's an open sentencing. I'm not sure if that makes a difference, but Payne has letters of support so it makes sense that the reverse would also be allowed. The advice given here is from a journalist who has worked closely on the case including speaking with the prosecutors.

PhysioProf,exactly. If you steal something from an employer, that's an aggravating factor because you are in a special relationship of trust with your employer. That ought to apply with respect to this case as well. As to whether or not it will, that's another story of course, since judges have such a hard time punishing sex offenders. The harm done still not being clear to so many of them. You know, it actually worries me that if this judge hears from too many womenz, he might think there IS a feminist smear campaign going on and sympathize with Payne. Anyone think Payne himself may have thought of that?
I notice this scumbag still has this blog entry up, where he whines about "irrational and damaging" claims about his character. I don't see any evidence of guilt and remorse in his anger at people "jumping to the most outrageous conclusions" about him.
What a lying two-faced little bastard. He's clearly more upset about being caught than he is about violating someone. I bet he'd never have owned up to anything if he thought he could get away with it. It's all about how it affects him, the hurt he's caused means nothing compared with that.
I doubt there's any genuine remorse over what he's done. He's just trying to gain sympathy, in the vain hope that it'll get him off the hook. This man is pure slime, nobody should ever trust him again.
I hope the judge doesn't fall for his act and throws the book at him.

I think what really is making me scratch my head about this guy is that he seems to honestly think that "I don't know" is a good enough answer to the question of "Why did you do it?"
That answer doesn't work for a 12 year old when they get caught doing stuff they know they're not suppose to and he thinks Feminists are going to buy it?

The current administration beats it by several orders of magnitude. He sounds young and stupid to me, the real order to those descriptions are reversed but they flow better in the traditional sequence.
Ren, one of the most egregious things about his post was the allegation of a "smear" campaign coming from you. You did wonderful work to create an incredibly diverse campaign, knitting together disparate voices (ouch, mixed metaphor) very nicely. Lots of "anti-porn" bloggers were completely and unequivocally in your corner. KP knows that full well.

Hugo: Actually, no the *most* egregious thing about Kyle Payne's post was his way of focusing on his *own* suffering while diminishing that of his victim. Making it all about him, so to speak. The mention of Ren's so-called "smear campaign" is just part and parcel of that attitude.
And, yes, that was vile too. And that pissed me off because, like drakyn said, I know that Ren is far more concerned about women's well-being and empowerment than fuckstains like Kyle will ever be. But, seriously, it's not *quite* on par with minimizing the fact that he's a SEXUAL PREDATOR, or did you miss that part?

The world is shitty, yes there will always be 'bigger' fish to fry, 'more' we could be doing, 'better' ways to spend our time. But it doesn't mean that this guy should be let off the hook. I highly doubt that however much Ren or anyone else says about how much they hate Bush will change anything. People've been hating him since 2000, he's been gradually more despised. And no real changes. Payne is a fish we can actually fry.
